URINALYSIS With MICRO

A urinalysis is a group of physical, chemical, and microscopic tests. The tests detect and/or measure several substances in the urine, such as byproducts of normal and abnormal metabolism, cells, cellular fragments, and bacteria.

WHY SHOULD I GET TESTED?

For screening, diagnosing, and/or monitoring several conditions and diseases (e.g. kidney disorders or UTIs).

WHEN SHOULD I GET TESTED?

Sometimes this test will be ordered to go along with your annual health examination, pregnancy check-up, hospital admission, or surgical preop. Additionally, it may be ordered if symptoms such as abdominal pain, back pain, and frequent or painful urination are present.

    • Why do I need this test?

 

    • Physical color and appearance

 

    • Microscopic appearance

 

  • If needed urine may be examined under a microscope to:
  • Check if there are any cells, urine crystals, urinary casts, mucus, and other substances.
  • Identify any bacteria or other germs.

 

 

  • chemical appearance (urine chemistry)
  • A special strip (dipstick) is used to test for substances in the urine sample. The strip has pads of chemicals that change color when they come in contact with substances of interest.

 

  • Examples of specific urinalysis tests that may be done to check for problems include:
  • Red blood cell urine test
  • Glucose urine test
  • Protein urine test
  • Urine pH level test
  • Ketones urine test
  • Bilirubin urine test
